We would like to wish all our Muslim friends “Selamat Hari Raya”. We are all proud of our multi-racial society and will not miss this opportunity in celebrating this festival.
n order to give the children an insight into Malay culture, we organized a little Hari Raya tea picnic on Thursday. We had a typical Raya spread such as lemang, dodol, nasi impit, bahulu, satay sauce, kurma, onde-onde, kuih sago, cookies and of course rose syrup drink. We were very fortunate to have such a lovely weather on that day. At the end of the picnic, most of the foods were snapped up and the children helped to clean up. They have had such a great time and have been asking for the next picnic.
The kindergartners also made their own Hari Raya card. It was beautifully decorated with tiny tinsels and the children drawn pictures of mosque, stars, moon and fire works on it.
Besides making cards, we also made Ramadhan lantern or fanoos. The Fanoos is similar to the lamp, only it is lighted by a candle instead of oil. It is not popular in Malaysia but are commonly found in Egypt. In Malaysia though, we have oil lantern or pelita. We hung our proudly made fanoos on the fence.
We certainly look forward for the next festival celebration.
hi!! it is a great idea to carry out such picnic activities. very often, we parents could not carry it out because of many reasons such as the companionship and the time. thanks a lot for exposing them to the idea of going for a picnic.
